University of Houston Victoria LGBTQ Climate Analysis Discussion

University of Houston Victoria LGBTQ Climate Analysis Discussion

Description

When students feel safe at school they are more ready to learn. How safe do students feel at your school site? As you work through this assignment, take the time to look at the policies and practices through the eyes of a student in need of support. For this assignment, you will examine your state’s climate for LGBTQ+ students, then you will research your district, school site, and classroom practices and write a two-page analysis of your findings.

Using this GLSEN.org website link, examine your state’s climate for LGBTQ+ students. (If you reside outside of the U.S., you may try to locate this information for your region; however, if you have difficulty, please reach out to your instructor for guidance.)

  1. Next, research the policies and/or supports that your district has in place for LGBTQ+ students. How is that information shared with families, students, and educators?

Look at your school: How does your school implement policies and practices for supporting LGBTQ+ students?

  1. Finally, turn to your classroom. What gender norms are present in your language practices, classroom procedures, course materials, etc.?
