READING ASSIGNMENT #6–CHAPTER 6: SUICIDE AND LIFE-THREATENING BEHAVIORS

Critical Thinking Questions:

1.  Why is there such a marked gender difference in involvement in homicide followed by suicide? What kinds of social processes precede a male-perpetrated  homicide followed by suicide” and a female-perpetrated “homicide followed by suicide” event?
2.  Is the taking of one’s own life ever justified? Discuss at least three key reasons for your decision to either reject suicidal death as unjustified under any conditions, or provide three reasons and circumstances in which suicide is justifiable.

3. Social media may be viewed as the catalyst that fuels suicide contagion and may well result in a suicide cluster. Devise a social media strategy intended to reduce the adverse effects of social media in its various forms on suicidal behavior.

4. Summarize why attempted suicide may be a “cry for help”
