For this paper, select two subgroups (I chose Puerto Ricans and Cubans) and analyze the history of how each population came to be a part of the United States. Discuss what you see as two of the most important factors that
helped each group’s ability to gain economic, cultural, and/or political rights. Then, discuss two
of the most important factors that you believe hindered each group’s ability to gain
economic, cultural, and/or political rights. Must be around 1750 words.
I want you to analyze the two subgroups in the contemporary period, explore the different challenges each group has, and talk about the help/hinder of both groups. In doing this assignment, make sure that you work closely with the
necessary texts. Avoid vague or sweeping generalizations and unsupported opinions. Instead, make
sure that your analysis is grounded in the readings. Make good use of quotes, and cite specific
examples to support your claims and make your case. Try not to use off-class citations. Attached are the according readings.
