Hi! I need to write the discussion section of a lab report.
These are the instructions:
“In the discussion section, one reviews their results and conclusions and compares them to previously
published results from similar studies or expected or predicted results based on current theories or
understandings. For your paper, it would be good to find a published article to compare. Then one could discuss if
their results support or contradict current understanding and theories. If one’s results are different than
expected or other studies, one would discuss possible reasons for the differences observed. One usually
has a paragraph or two about each major goal or experiment in the article and has the following parts for
1. Statement of the conclusions drawn from your experimental results.
2. Discussion of how your results are similar or different to other results (published) or your expected
results. If your results are different from others or expected, discuss why the difference this might
3. Discuss the broader implication of this conclusion to our understanding of the workings of living
organisms or to a purposeful application of scientific knowledge. Examples of broader implications
would include: What does this conclusion say about the working of cells? What does this conclusion
say about the use of a drug, chemical, sample or procedure used in the experiment.
