Read two stories and write a four-page rhetorical analysis.
For your written submission: Use your notes (and any other insights generated by going through the prompts & questions for Exercise 2) to develop your assessment [in 4 pages of informal writing] of the relative effectiveness of these two stories
Your goal is to consider which story did a better job of eliciting a response from you:
- Your argument needs to focus on HOW that response was elicited and WHY that response either helped the storyteller’s message get through to you or hindered the storyteller’s message from getting through to you
For your intro, please give a synopsis of each story in roughly 1-2 sentences
You should describe the broad situation depicted in the story, but you should also comment on the underlying purpose you see for the storyteller choosing to discuss & explain these particular circumstances
For your thesis statement, please be explicit in explaining which story was more effective at achieving its underlying purpose
To be as explicit as possible, be sure to include a BECAUSE clause: “Story A was more effective than Story B [at achieving the purpose of…] because Story A [did a better job of using the rhetorical & storytelling strategies of…]”
